An Introduction

Delhi University is known for its colleges which are located in the north campus. However, the south campus also consists of colleges which are better than most of the north campus colleges. Though the colleges in the south campus are not as closely knit as the ones in the north campus, still they can enjoy the vibe of south Delhi.

Top 10 south campus colleges according to the majority opinion, NIRF rankings and cut-offs are as below-

Top 10 colleges in South Campus:

1. Lady Shri Ram College for women

LSR is undoubtedly the best college in the south campus. It is ranked 2 as per the NIRF rankings and can be considered as one of the top 3 colleges at Delhi University. It is a premier institute for women’s education and was established in 1956 by Lala Shri Ram in memory of his late wife. 

The college offers a plethora of courses and is best known for its humanities courses. It also offers courses in commerce and BSc courses in mathematics and statistics. The college is known not only for its academics but also for the multitude of extracurricular activities going on the campus.

Societies: Debating society, NSS, Dance society, Projekt-photography society etc.

Placements: The college offered the highest package at INR 37.8 LPA and an average package of INR 7.5 LPA.

The reason college has been placed at the first position in top 10 colleges in south Campus list is because of the academics and extracurricular activities provided by the college. Moreover, the highest package of the college is the highest in Delhi University surpassing SRCC and St Stephens.

2. Sri Venkateswara College

Sri Venkateswara College is located right next to the main south campus and can be called one of the main colleges in the south campus. It offers 20 courses at the undergraduate level in commerce, arts and science and 9 courses at the postgraduate level. It is ranked 11th as per the NIRF rankings. The foundation stone of the college was set by Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. This college is also popularly known as the SRCC of the south campus.

Societies: Creative art society, western music society, Choreography society, quiz society etc.

Placements: The highest package stood at INR 15 LPA and the average package at INR 5.03 LPA.

Sri Venkateswara College is placed second in top 10 colleges in south Campus list because of the apt location and the skyrocketing cut-offs of the college. In the year 2021, the cut off for B.com honours stood at 99.75 percent.

3. Jesus and Mary College

Third on the list would be Jesus and Mary College. Just like LSR, JMC is also a women’s college. This college is known for its skyrocketing cut-offs. It is one of the only two Christian minority colleges at Delhi University. Even though it is ranked 41 as per the NIRF rankings the popular opinions and cut-offs say otherwise.

The college is also strict about attendance and discipline. The college offers multiple courses in commerce, arts and humanities. It also offers courses in vocational studies and elementary education.

Societies: Enactus, E-cell, Art and architecture society, Quiz society etc.

JMC is considered the third-best women’s only college after Miranda and LSR.The college owes its ranking in top 10 colleges in south Campus list to both the infrastructure and the academic orientation.

4. Gargi College

Gargi College is located in the Siri Fort area, yet another women’s only college. It is located close to Kamla Nehru college and LSR. It was established in 1967. It is named after a woman Gargi figuring in the Vedic age in the Upanishad-Brihadaranyaka.It is ranked 16th as per the NIRF rankings.

The college offers courses in arts, science,commerce and education. The department of biotechnology,Government of India honoured the college with star college status.

Societies: Eco club, western dance society, western music society, Equal opportunity cell etc.

Gargi is ranked 4th as per top 10 colleges in south Campus list because of its exceedingly good performance in the NIRF ranking list. Moreover, the college provides some of the best societies.

5. Shaheed Bhagat Singh college

Shaheed Bhagat Singh college is a co-educational college located in the southern parts of Delhi called Sheikh Sarai.It was established in the year 1967. It was named after the famous freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.It has been accredited by NAAC with an A grade. The college offers arts, commerce and science courses. Moreover, the college offers 6 different combinations in the B.A. programme.

Societies: Music society, Film Society, History Society,Economics society etc

Placements: Highest package stood at INR 9 LPA in the year 2019.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh is a well-known college for commerce. At some point, it used to be considered the next best option after Hansraj by students. Moreover, the society 180 dc is one of the best societies in the college providing a great experience by collaborating with NGOs and real-life clients. Thus ranked 5th on top 10 colleges in south Campus list.

6. Atma Ram Sanatan Dharam College

Atma Ram Sanatan Dharam College has been ranked 12th as per the NIRF rankings and is doing exceedingly well year after year. The college is located in Dhaula Kuan close to JMC and maitreyi. The college offers courses in arts, commerce and sciences. Famous actor Raj Kumar Rao also completed his graduation from ARSD.

Placements: Highest package stood at INR 10 LPA and the average package stood at INR 5.17 LPA

ARSD has done exceedingly well in the NIRF rankings and is ranked 12th in the entire country and 6th in top 10 colleges in south Campus list. Moreover, the strategic location of the college can make a student enjoy the best of the south campus.

7. Maitreyi College

Maitreyi is an all women’s college located in Chanakyapuri, South Delhi. It was established in 1967 and named after a Vedic sage maitreyi. The college is located right in front of the Jesus and Mary college. It has been ranked 35 as per the NIRF rankings 2021.

The college offers courses in arts, science, and commerce. The college also offers a post-graduate diploma course in nanotechnology. Just like Gargi, the department of biotechnology, the government of India also honoured the college with star college status.

Societies: Theatre society, fashion society, fine arts society, photography society etc.

Placements: Highest package stood at INR 9.5 LPA and the average package stood at INR 3.5 LPA.

Maitreyi is considered one of the good girls’ colleges right next to JMC. The college has one of the best fashion societies in the entire University. Thus ranked 7th on our top 10 colleges in south Campus list.

8. Delhi college of arts and commerce

Delhi college of arts and commerce is located in Netaji Nagar was established in the year 1987. The college has its origins in the erstwhile G.D. Salwan college. It offers 18 different courses in arts and commerce and is best known for its programme B.com Hons. It also offers the B.A programme courses with 12 different combinations including the combinations with foreign languages. Some notable alumni include Mr Cyrus Sahukar and Nalin Mehta.

Societies: E-Cell,Marketing society, photography society etc 

Placements: The highest package stood at INR 10 LPA and the average package stood at INR 4.2 LPA.

DCAC is known for its commerce courses. Moreover the wide variety of combinations provided in the B. A programme department makes it suitable to be ranked 8th on the top 10 colleges in south Campus list.

9. College of Vocational Studies

College of vocational studies is located in Sheikh Sarai close to Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. This college was established in 1972 to provide vocational education to students. The college has been accredited with NAAC A as per rankings. The college offers commerce and arts courses along with a BSc course in computer science. Apart from merit-based courses CVS also offers a BMS programme the admissions of which are done through the DUJAT examination.

Societies: Information and cultural society, NCC, NSS, Connecting Dreams Foundation etc.

Placements: The college offers packages up to 8-9 LPA

CVS is the only college that provides BMS courses on the entire south campus. Moreover, societies such as the western music society of the college are well known. Hence ranked 9th on our list of top 10 colleges in south Campus.

10. Dyal Singh college

Dyal Singh College is located on Lodhi Road right next to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. It has been ranked 29 as per the NIRF rankings 2021. It is a co-educational college and was established in 1959. The college was established from the money willed by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, founder of Punjab National Bank.

Societies: Music society, Dance society, Theatre society, Photography society etc.

Placements: Highest package stood at 18 LPA

Dyal Singh is located on the famous Lodhi road. The infrastructural facilities and the NCC team of the society have been exemplary. The college has produced some famous IAS officers like IAS Satyam Gandhi. Hence one of the position holders in our list of top 10 colleges in south Campus.

Thus south campus has a mix of good and average colleges. The colleges have produced some of the best minds in the country and are exceedingly doing well in the NIRF rankings.
